Trout Fishing in America: The Musical Duo Returns to the Houston Area

Imagine a show that is so fun, yet full of talent, that it is enjoyed by people in their late 60’s all the way down to people in the single digits. It might be hard to imagine a show that would delight every generation, but that is just what kind of show is coming to The Centrum on February 20th.

The name of the infamous performers? Trout Fishing in America.

The name may stir recollections of the Richard Brautigan novel, but this is a duo who uses their musical talent to delight audiences of all ages. The duo, which originated in Houston, is comprised of Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet, standing side by side on bass and guitar respectively, with about 15 and a half inches of room between them vertically. This unlikely pair has been performing together since 1979.

Their website describes their show as “music for people who take their fun seriously” and on February 20th Cypress-Fairbanks residents can come and take their fun seriously too. The show begins at 6pm and will rock the house with the sounds of folk, jazz, country, blues and a variety of others styles for people to move to.

This fun filled night is part of the Cypress Creek Face (Foundation for the Arts & Community Enrichment) Family Series Program. Nanci Decker, executive director for Cypress Creek FACE shared, “They are what our family series is all about. What makes them fun is that their songs are often written from a child’s point of view. They were a perfect choice.” It is no wonder that they have been awarded multiple Parents Choice Gold and American Library Awards, and have had 4 Grammy nominations.

“This show is selling very well,” Decker said. “They have a cult following. They are a perfect anchor to our family series. Trout Fishing in America performances are good, clean fun, and have lots of audience participation. What could be better for a family to attend?”

Cypress Creek FACE is a non-profit performing arts foundation that seeks to provide cultural arts programming to the community. They bring a variety of performances to The Centrum, a world-class, 885-seat facility on the campus of the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center at 6823 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, TX.
