Cy-Fair College Students Earn Entrepreneurship Awards

Lone Star College Cy-Fair started the year on a positive note as two students and business owners earned the college's first Student Entrepreneurship Awards. Winners Toni Scott Grant and runner-up Heather Diaz have displayed a passion for their businesses and confidence in the enhancement their education will offer their paths in the future.

Grant owns Scott Phree Boutique, a youth-driven business that carries clothing and accessories marketed for ages 18 to 45. The business reflects today’s online-oriented market, as she started it completely online and now has a storefront boutique in Montrose. The ambitious owner has plans for additional locations in the future, including in Brooklyn.

Grant's goals in attending LSC-Cy-Fair are to complete her associate degree by summer 2010 and to reassess price points and revamp marketing for Scott Phree Boutique.

Runner-up Diaz is owner and photographer of Sunshine Studios, an endeavor she plans to take on full-time while completing her bachelor's degree in accounting. Diaz has been a photographer for over 14 years, yet did not start her own business until 2005.

The winners were announced at a recent Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce meeting.
