High school students in Fairfield have already started planning the details of their prom and their ideas are grand. But, amidst the economic stress many of their families, some students dreams would have been in jeopardy if not for one local organization, founded to making these dreams come true.

The Giving Gown Foundation is a non-profit organization collecting donations of new and “like-new” formal gowns and accessories to provide for free to high school girls who would otherwise be unable to attend their prom. Supported by generous donations from the community and a team of dedicated sponsors and volunteers, their job is to make dreams come true. Basically…Fairy Godmothers.

Co-Founder Adina Walker says the “foundation always needs volunteers for their big boutique day, especially seamstresses. She adds that in her experience, Giving Gown princesses are all very appreciative of their dresses and accessories. “They have all been thrilled and very thankful,” she says. “They cannot believe that it is all theirs to keep - for free!”

Fairfield Resident Makes American Idol's Top 12

The Fairfield community is ecstatic to share that our own Paige Miles has made it to the hit TV show American Idol's top 12! Miles, a Florida native, came to Cy-Fair approximately six years ago, after graduating high school. Before auditioning for the show, she worked in a after- and before-school care program at Shepherd United Methodist Church.

Last week, Miles sand "Smile" by Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett; her beautiful voice is powerful and sure to wow the judges for next week's "Rollings Stones" week on FOX, Tuesday, March 16th at 7pm.

To vote for your neighbor, watch for her toll free number during the show and dial it in when the host announces the designated time (for two hours following the show). AT&T subscribers can text the word "VOTE" to Miles' four-digit short code. You can vote as many times as you like!

Spring Forward for Daylight Saving Time: March 14

Each Spring, we move our clocks forward by one hour during the night in order to capture the convenience that extra light brings during the Spring and Summer seasons. Friendswood Development Company is reminding Fairfield residents to remember to do just that at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14.

Daylight Saving Time actually affects you in more ways than simply confusing your schedule. By making the adjustment, we are allowing ourselves to use less energy in lighting out homes. This energy-saving orientation was the original intent of the U.S. when Daylight Saving Time was instituted during World War I and later when the length of Daylight Saving Time was standardized in 1966.
